Bryde reveals chilling debut single "Wait" [Premiere]
Brixton-based artist Bryde is revealing her debut single "Wait" on Best Fit.
The singer/songwriter/guitarist is inspired by the likes of PJ Harvey and Sharon Van Etten - which can be heard in the fragile emotion of "Wait" - and is working on "an as yet untitled collection of songs" about a "mirage-like relationship".
Bryde's first offering is a tender, wiry piece of tearjerk folk-pop. The swirling, swollen textures and rippling electric guitars bear resemblance to Daughter or HAWK, but Bryde keeps everything very much her own with country-flecked melodies, bouts of silence, and pristine vocals.
Speaking about the cover art's relevance to her music, Bryde says: "The cover shot was just a little snap shot taken at home for Instagram but it came to symbolise the music. Everyone thinks it is a tin of black paint when actually it’s a shallow tin of shoe polish. That deception is exactly the kind of relationship I want these songs convey.”
Bryde will play London's St Giles In The Fields on 11 December.
