Big | Brave bring the heavy sound of Montreal to the UK
Montreal’s Big | Brave return to European shores this week in support of their recently released third album Ardor. Recorded in Montreal’s Hotel2Tango with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh of Jerusalem In My Heart at the controls the record finds the band continuing to build and experiment with the tensions between silence and noise, sparse arrangements and surging waves of noise.
The trio are joined on the record by Jessica Moss of A Silver Mt Zion on violin and Thierry Amar of Godspeed You! Black Emperor on contrabass, allowing the band to expand their sonic palette and ratcheting up the tensions even further. Sound, the first track on the record, begins with an oscillating and evolving drone, churning and swooning as Moss’ violin and the feedback from the twin guitar attack entwine. Suddenly the heavy bass and drums kick in, an abrasive gut-punch of an arrival. Simultaneously brutal and engaging the track swirls and evolves around the ultra heavy bass and guitarist Robin Wattie’s vocals, punctuating the noise with bursts of silence, a technique that serves to intensify the effects of both.
Urgent, captivating and perhaps even a little terrifying, its the sound of a band in total control. The band will be joined by Jessica Moss for the string of dates below:
- Jordan Adetunji returns with "X n the City"
- R.E.M. announce five-track benefit EP, Radio Free Europe 2025
- Charli XCX, Neneh Cherry, Jordan Stephens, and more sign open letter of solidarity to trans community
- Moses Sumney, Yukimi Nagano, Obongjayar and Yussef Dayes to feature on Little Simz's forthcoming album, Lotus
