Atlanta-based Baby Rose shares the soulful “August 5th”
Soul-influenced artist Baby Rose releases a deeply personal track on her birthday. “August 5th” captures change and the human adversities we all face at one point or another.
Do you remember that feeling of childlike wonder that you’d get when trying to swing as high as you could on your old swing set? The higher you swung, the more blue sky would flood your vision. The world appeared so much bigger from up there and you felt like if you let go you’d fly. Still, something usually kept you from doing so. Even then, part of you knew you might get hurt. In her newest release “August 5th,” Atlanta-based R&B singer Baby Rose wholly captures this childhood sentiment that easily translates into many scenarios of our adult lives.
The track fittingly came out this past Monday, which also happens to be the 25-year-old's birthday. With her unrestrained, exceptionally mature voice reminiscent of Nina Simone and Gladys Knight, Baby Rose holds your hand as she guides you to re-evaluate aspects of your past - this time without rose-tinted glasses.
Describing what inspired the song, Baby Rose said, “it’s really about how no matter how old I am, or wise I get, there will always be bumps in the road and lows I have to overcome. It’s a reminder for me, on my bday August 5th, to embrace the journey.” Making this realisation is a big accomplishment in and of itself. Baby Rose is wary of how things have and always will continue to change throughout her life. Her sage, beautifully-crafted lyricism suggests a rare form of self-awareness that is not only wise beyond her years but equally bold and unassuming
The production and arrangement of “August 5th” are also mellowed and reserved but even further restrained. Easy R&B drums, steady electric guitar, and soft, lush strings take a backseat as her voice breathes fullness and life into the track.
