Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti – Fright Night (Nevermore) (Dâm-Funk Remix)
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti have posted the Dâm-Funk remix of their song ‘Fright Night (Nevermore)‘ just ahead of their imminent European tour.
The original, which appears on album Before Today struts through it’s three-and-a-half minutes clicking its fingers and sporting a perfectly constructed 80′s quiff. The remix is much more understated but loses little of the original’s infectious-pop quality in its transformation from gothic-pop stomper to late-night smooth-boogie.
Where the original revels in its perfectly measured excesses – which would be dangerous in the hands of anyone other than Ariel Pink and co. – the remix is a lot more restrained. The ear is teased by hints at the lush layers of the original, but you only ever get a peek at a sound before it melts away out of the mix. The sound undulates quite sexily, taking its sweet time – it is the after-hours older brother of the original.
Without removing – what can only be described as the essential Ariel Pink-esque quality of the track -Dâm-Funk has, well, Funk-ed it up considerably.
