Arctic Lake invoke a spellbinding splendour on "What You May Find"
London trio Arctic Lake make exactly the kind of music you'd expect a band called Arctic Lake to make: thoughtful, resonant, and utterly splendid.
The band's 2017 EP Closer was an exercise in deliberate, glittering songwriting – an introduction to their spellbinding sound for those who missed earlier singles "Limits", "Only Me", and "For Us".
New cut "What You May Find" is a slow-burner, with vocalist Emma Foster laying down a rich, London Grammar-esque vocal over the track's sweeping, grandiose soundscape. There's no hurry here, and indeed it's the confidence in their own restraint that makes Arctic Lake so utterly beguiling. Sure, there's a gentle percussive swell to "What You May Find"'s final chorus, but it's still so sophisticated and gloriously unhurried that it casts barely a ripple across this lake's glassy surface.
Arctic Lake headline London's Omeara on 21 June. Tickets are on sale now.
