Listen: Ara Koufax - "Converge" [Premiere]
Ara Koufax, the latest act added to Melbourne independent music group, DOWNTIME, spark much interest and curiosity. Artists Sam Gill and Luke Neher previously worked together as Naysayer & Gilsun before making improvised music out of a “messy, six-hour jam” in a beach hut for their new project. We’re pleased to premiere the first fruit of their labour on Best Fit.
“Converge” introduces the multi-layered electronic universe of Ara Koufax, paired with artwork that would make Peter Saville and Barney Bubbles squeal with happiness. It’s noisy, cluttered work, with multiple-rhythm sections compartmentalising an electronic mess and tidying it up in a neat package. It feels like swimming against a stream of data à la Matrix, only guided by powerful, soothing lead vocals that we long to hear more of in the near future.
Ara Koufax will elease their debut EP in August via DOWNTIME.
