Ever since their emergence in 2006, Beach House have put out records as stably and steadily as major football tournaments pass by. And just like France’s predictable fall at the first hurdle and Italy’s inevitable loss on penalties, you almost always know what you’re going to get.
Bloom, their fourth full-length to date, is hardly if at all different from their previous outputs. Album opener, ‘Myth’, sounds like it could have fitted right on their last album Teen Dream, in fact some parts of it actually sound like lead tracks from that release.
Structurally formulaic maybe, Beach House are on the other hand musically quite brilliant and their ability to create pop bliss never falters.
Bloom comes out 14 May on Sub Pop/Bella Union. Stream in full right now over at NPR.
