Irish art-popper Æ Mak breaks the mould with the extraordinary "Love Flush"
Æ Mak is the alias of Aoife McCann, who brings a Björk-esque sense of character down to earth with danceable accessibility on forthcoming single "Love Flush".
With a complete lack of regard for the confines of genre, McCann embraces elements of pop, dance, folk, and electronica on the hypnotic new release. Produced by Æ Mak's Daniel McIntyre (Lullahush) and accompanied by self-directed visuals – at once as simplistic and as trippy as the track itself – "Love Flush" is a truly bewitching two-and-a-half minutes of space-age synths and tectonic beats.
"'Love Flush' is a twisted love song," McCann explains of the track. "It's about choosing your own ambitions over a true love, pushing that someone away to embrace this higher vision you have of yourself, even though that's what made you happy. Ego's a bitch."
With dates in support of tUnE-yArDs nestled into her upcoming tour, Æ Mak's trajectory seems far less abstract then her twisted inspiration. Emboding a similar DIY ethos to her tourmate, albeit with a far glossier sheen, McCann's indescribable discography looks set to launch her into the public eye sooner rather than later.
