Swedish rapper Silvana Imam unleashes righteous fury on "Varma Gator"
Ahead of her debut album later this month, Swedish rapper and activist Silvana Imam has unveiled another incredible track.
With Naturkraft set to drop on 25 March and having recently been crowned "Artist of the Year" at the Swedish Grammis, everything Imam touches at the moment is turning to solid gold.
The anti-fascist, feminist, gender theory-quoting gay rapper Imam has already released the lyrically uncompromising EP När Du Ser Mig • Se Dig and she's not letting up the attack on her latest track "Varma Gator", which features Cherrie, a fellow member of Stockholm-based hip hop collective RMH.
While not as overtly political as some of her other releases, Imam still brings so much fire and passion to "Varma Gator" as she raps about the power and draw of the streets she walks each and every day - proud to do so as the woman she is and what she stands for, and fuck anyone that gets in her way, she's taking them back one way or another. Over blaring horns and big, crunchy beats Imam's delivery of her native language bites on every line, never misses a beat, never misses a target.
Silvana Imam is an utterly compelling performer, making music that's as much a cultural and political manifesto as it is an artistic statement. Naturkraft could be one of the albums of the year, so listen below to "Varma Gator".
