Watch: Siskiyou - "Violent Motion Pictures" [Premiere]
Siskiyou will be releasing their third record, Nervous, via Montreal’s Constellation Records on 20 January next year.
An intensely personal album, the record evolved as a result of, and as a response to a serious inner ear condition developed by songwriter and lead singer Colin Huebert following the release of 2011’s Keep Away The Dead. Unable to find medical treatment, Huebert turned to meditation, and then silence, before developing songs with the band at low levels, with all the experiences channelling into the intense music.
"Violent Motion Pictures" is the latest track to be taken from the album (you can listen to the first, "Deserter", here), and features guest vocals from Tamara Lederman of The Weather Station, as well as affected trumpet from JP Carter (Destroyer/ Fond of Tigers/ Dan Mangan and Blacksmith) and Colin Stetson. Slow burning and hypnotic, the track unfolds in phases, at once expansive and claustrophobic, discordant and melodic. The video treatment is provided by experimental multi-media artist Crystal Dorval.
