The 10 Best Robyn Remixes

30 May 2016, 11:00

As Robyn gears up to release a new remix project, we scoured her back catalogue to dig up the best edits so far.

The RMXRBN project was hinted at last week, and announced over the weekend. It features edits of big hits from artists such as The Black Madonna, Axel Boman, and Zhala, and is being debuted live at her upcoming festival performances before being released in June.

Speaking about the remixes, the Swedish megastar says: "Remixes make me listen to a song in a different way; they stretch you out as a listener and leave space for other things that a pop song usually doesn’t. I hope to be able to share this experience with my audiences at Governor’s Ball, Boston Calling, and Field Trip over the next week and just dancing together…"

While we wait for these juicy new reworks to hit the airwaves, check out what we reckon are the 10 Best Robyn Remixes.

"Cobrastyle" - RAC

Robyn's Teddybears cover gets a choppy, dystopian edit from Portuguese pop architect RAC with clattering percussion and siren synths wrenched to the forefront.

"Indestructible" - The Krays

The Krays, named after the notorious British gangster twins but actually French producers Yuksek and Brodinski, turn Robyn's power ballad into a euphoric French house banger with funky synths and high-octane beats.

"Do It Again" - Moullinex

"Do It Again" is a stone cold belter, but Moullinex finds a way to do it justice in his remix - rhythms are paramount in this version, and it's impossible to remain still.

"U Should Know Better" - Christian Falk

The Snoop Dogg team up gets turned inside out by the late Christian Falk - a frequent collaborator of Robyn's, and 1/3 of La Bagatelle Magique - with low-slung basslines, parping brass blasts, chimes, and roughly hewn vocals.

"Show Me Love" - QD3 Fat Boy

This take on 1997's "Show Me Love" ropes in Rahzel (who worked on Björk's Medúlla as a beatboxer) and O.C., and mixes Robyn's sleek R&B vocals with old school hip-hop vibes.

"Dancing On My Own" - Fred Falke

"Dancing On My Own" is one of Robyn's most well-loved tracks, and Fred Falke gives it a royal pop remix. The original is huge, but this is fucking massive.

"Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do" - Mylo & Sharooz

Mylo & Sharooz work Robyn's techno foray into an off-kilter anthem that sounds like it could erupt from the halls of Ed Banger. It's got big hip-hop beats, slap bass, synth organs, rippling hooks, and cowbell galore.

"Fembot" - Rokk

Rokk fuses "Fembot" with Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It" like some cackling mad pop scientist, and brings Robyn's robo-rap to the top with shards of the '80s classic jammed in underneath.

"Who's That Girl?" - Styrafoam

"Who's That Girl?" doesn't get the widespread love it deserves, but Styrafoam gives it the attention it needs and transforms it into a dark, "Tubular Bells"-smacked floorfiller.

"With Every Heartbeat" - Steve Angello

Steve Angello gives arguably Robyn's biggest hit a sinister, minimalist twist, stretching it over seven minutes and using only brief fragments of the original.

Robyn plays NYC's Governor’s Ball on 3 June and Toronto's Field Trip on 5 June.
