Dive In: One to Watch for 2014

04 December 2013, 10:00

Hailing from Glastonbury, Dive In embrace a very natural approach to the craft of writing a great pop song.

“We don’t consider ‘pop’ a dirty word”, they tell Best Fit, “growing up around the festival (Glastonbury) has enabled us to really distinguish between what is cool on paper and what is actually ‘cool’ in the real world – big songs and hooks that truly resonate with the masses and translate into the biggest of live moments.”

The quartet have been playing in bands together for the past five years but it’s with Dive In that their sound and approach has really been cemented. “We were all living in the same small place and all shared a love for writing music and playing live – it was inevitable that we’d all come together eventually; there are only so many musicians being from such a small place – so it’s somewhat of a blessing that it did all come together so well.”

The group’s debut single “Let Go” is, in short, a masterclass in indie pop. It has everything: a soaring chorus, infectious guitar lines, sparkling production and a glorious hook. It also possesses that rare ability to break your heart whilst you dance along. The line “if it’s me, in your head, then just go with it” – so simple but delivered with such joy and wanting, it’s borderline impossible not to be affected. Music for the head, heart and feet.

But one great song does not a band make. They tell Best Fit: “stylistically speaking – we think it’s going to become more apparent in due course that our songwriting is actually fairly diverse – however – all whilst maintaining that ‘Dive In’ sound. But you can definitely expect more in the vein of “Let Go”; in terms of energy and feel. We all share an undeniable love for pop music and what is essentially ‘a well crafted song’.”

We expect amazing things from Dive In over the coming year and, if the band’s eagerly awaited output is even half as captivating as “Let Go”, their entry as a group to watch out for is absolutely justified.
