Benjamin Curtis of School of Seven Bells recommends… “Deep Water” by Portishead
“This is a strange pick for sure, but ‘Deep Water’ is an amazing moment in what might be the best record of 2008. It’s obviously very atypical of what they do, but the humor and style of the production are amazing. There are probably other songs on the album that might make better singles, but this song is what completes the picture for the album as a whole, and those are the ones that usually stand out for us. You always have to root for the underdog!”
School of Seven Bells are a Brooklyn-based drone and guitar outfit made up of Benjamin Curtis, ex- of the Secret Machines, and identical twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza. Their debut album Alpinisms is out now on Full Time Hobby.
