The Cinematic Orchestra fulfil all promises, Live in London

24 March 2019, 13:10

Gazing through the space between the pillars of London's Roundhouse, we peered down onto a sea of people as rising spotlights revealed the many instrumentalists that make up The Cinematic Orchestra.

British genre-defying group, The Cinematic Orchestra celebrated the release of new album To Believe with three headline shows at The Roundhouse in London. Attending the closing night of their London shows, the performance included guest appearances from album features Heidi Vogel and Tawiah as well as support slots from Alfa Mist and Yazmin Lacey.

Set to a corresponding backdrop of lighting that shifted colour on each song; the group played tracks from across the new album including "Lessons", "Zero One/This Fantasy" as well as renowned tracks like "Man With A Movie Camera". Most notably "Tom Sax Loop" saw Saxophononist Tom Chant, loop layered parts on his various brass instruments, creating a torrent of sound that flew throughout the venue.

Playing a diverse set of genres with nu-jazz influences, the band had a line-up of instruments including electronics, strings and brass with percussionist Luke Flowers notably playing impressive rhythms amongst the soundscape. With each song came a new theme including at one stage a glitter tunnel released down towards beautiful vocalist Heidi Vogel for "A Promise".

Turntablist and electronic producer Jason Swinscoe seemingly led the group with his conducting as the band showcased a wealth of experience in performance and had the audience absorbed into their world right up until concluding track "All That You Give".

Catch The Cinematic Orchestra on their worldwide tour with dates including multiple cities around the U.K., Ireland and Japan.
