10 essential releases for Record Store Day 2026

Record Store Day is approaching again, and the full list of exclusive releases has finally dropped but we’ve sifted through the 540 or so records dropping on Saturday to find the gold - and here’s the ten we’re very, very excited about.

    1
    Inbred by Ethel Cain

    Format: 12" Vinyl EP
    Label: Daughters of Cain
    Quantity: 6500
    Release type: 'RSD First' Release

10-track bootleg pressings of Ethel Cain’s Inbred EP – which holds “Crush” and “Michell Pfeiffer”, the two songs that got everyone talking about her – have popped up over the last few years, labelled as “unofficial imports”. Hayden Anhedonia wrote, produced, and mixed Inbred from the church basement she called home in Indiana while constructing the EP and for the first time, the record is getting a proper vinyl edition and is top of our list.

    Tracklist
    1. Michelle Pfeiffer (feat. lil aaron)
    2. Crush
    3. God’s Country (feat. Wicca Phase Springs Eternal)
    4. Unpunishable

    2
untitled (albini rough mixes) by Slint

    Format: 12" Vinyl
    Label: Touch and Go Records
    Quantity: 2150
    Release type: RSD Exclusive Release

Slint’s final release — known as untitled — is the only EP by the beloved sons of Louisville, and was recorded in early 1989 using studio time freed up by another band not turning up to their slot with Steve Albini. According to Touch and Go’s Corey Rusk these rough mixes were dropped off at label offices by Albini and, he says “...blew my mind and I could not stop listening to them. Shortly thereafter, we agreed to release Slint’s next album on Touch and Go - the soon to be recorded Spiderland.

    Tracklist
Side A: Glenn (albini rough mix)
Side B: Rhoda (albini rough mix)

Songs from ‘Marc’ by T. Rex

    Format: LP
    Label: Demon Records
    Quantity: 2500
    Release type: RSD Exclusive Release

Recently discovered on a long-lost ¼-inch tape and newly mastered, these songs from Marc Bolan’s 1977 six-part Granada TV series MARC are 100% previously unreleased. During the series, Bolan — backed by a mostly new T.Rex — delivered fresh versions of his career highlights alongside new songs and covers of 1950s classics. It’s unclear whether these tracks were recorded in London or Manchester, but it’s most likely that T.Rex used a studio in the capital: they were made specifically for the show and Bolan had several studios at his disposal in his hometown. The tape box, unearthed in December 2024, offers no further clue!

    Tracklist
    Jeepster (Original ‘MARC’ Studio Version)
I Love To Boogie (Original ‘MARC’ Studio Version)
Endless Sleep (Original ‘MARC’ Studio Version)
Celebrate Summer (Original ‘MARC’ Studio Version)

Live at Revolution Hall by Adrianne Lenker

    Format: 3 x LP
    Label: 4AD
    Quantity: 3000
    Release type: RSD Exclusive Release

Originally issued on 500-copy only double cassette, this 43-track “sonic documentary” is finally getting a vinyl release and combines audio from three days of the 2024 Bright Future tour. Amid collaged soundbites of enthused applause and audience chatter, producer Andrew Sarlo takes listeners stage-side, where Lenker and her band (including Josefin Runsteen and Nick Hakim) embark on a setlist of deep-cuts, fan favourites (such as “not a lot, just forever” and “anything”), and unreleased gems (including “oldest” and “happiness”).

    Leisure Noise by Gay Dad

    Format: 12" blue vinyl, numbered
    Label: Matador
    Quantity: 1000
    Release type: RSD Exclusive

One of the OG industry plants, Gay Dad was formed in the mid 90s by former Mojo and The Face music journalist Cliff Jones and art magazine publisher Nick Crow and had hype and accusations of industry nepotism even before their first song had dropped. The band became the first ever to appear on Top of the Pops before releasing a record and their sole long-player Leisure Noise – released back in 1999 – never had a vinyl repress until now (and will set you back around £40 second hand).
