Polaroids with Yuna

11 July 2017, 09:00

The Malaysian R&B singer/songwriter was in town for an appearance this year's Wireless Festival and we caught up for some colourful sun-lit analogue Impossible polaroids.

We've been big fans of Yuna since we first heard the chilled-out, Usher-featuring "Crush" and the jazz/hip-hop-infused "Places to Go", both off her latest LP, Chapters.

Chapters, which took well-deserved spots in Billboard’s ‘Top 10 R&B Albums’ of 2016' and Rolling Stone's '20 Best R&B Albums of 2016' is out now on Verve Music.

Billboard aptly summed up the record "The uninitiated were introduced to Yuna this year via her sensual pairing with Usher on “Crush.” But there’s waaaay more to the Malaysian artist as this compelling album proves through such Sade-channeling selections as “Best Love” and “Unrequited Love.”"

Yuna explained the ideas behind Chapters to Time Out "The main theme of the album is self-love. I learned a lot about life, about myself within those two years more than any other phases that I’ve gone through. I probably wrote 80 songs within the one-and-a-half years of making Chapters; [it’s] chapters of my life that I wanted to talk about: letting go, finding faith in love again, learning how to love yourself. "

Following the Wireless show, Yuna is lined up to play the LA Soul Festival and OZY Fest in NY in July, before heading to Jakarta for We The Fest and to the Seoul Soul Festival, both in August.
