PJ Harvey streams new song 'Shaker Aamer', inspired by Guantánamo Bay detainee
PJ Harvey has penned a new track called ‘Shaker Aamer’, written for and about a British prisoner at Guantánamo Bay of the same name.
Aamer is currently being held at the controversial U.S detainment camp, despite being cleared for release in 2007. He’s been at the site for 11 years, without being given a trial or charged with any particular offence. The British government have called for Aamer’s return to the UK, amid fears that he’ll be transferred back to Saudi Arabia, his birthplace.
This follows another anti-Guantánamo activist protest recently, with Mos Def demonstrating the inhumane torture methods practised at the camp.
