Over the past couple of days Mars and .Paak have been trying to get noticed by the Recording Academy after Mars shared an open letter asking if their collaborative project Silk Sonic could perform at the 2021 Grammys this weekend.
After .Paak joked by asking if BTS needed a drummer because the Recording Academy hadn't yet responded to their request, the Grammys have accepted their request, and have added Silk Sonic as a last-minute addition to their performances taking place at the 2021 ceremony this weekend.
The Recording Academy wrote, "Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak we have been trying to call you all week. Have you changed your numbers? We would love for #silksonic to make their TV debut at the #GRAMMYs. Are you free this Sunday night? Follow back and we will DM for details."

Prior to the Grammys responding on Twitter, .Paak joked that Silk Sonic should go their separate ways. Mars responded jokingly, "Brothers for life? But you’re really gonna break up the band on twitter? BET! keep that same energy when i see you. You big toof bastard!" .Paak replied, "You ruined my life you little appropriating prick!!! WE’RE DONE!! #RIPSILKSONIC"
After both artists joked about reuniting, Mars wrote, "Dear Recording Academy we humbly accept your invitation to reunite on your grand stage. Thank you! We swear we won’t do the most."
