Danish trio AV AV AV release their anarchic vision with “No Statues”

19 August 2019, 18:23 | Written by Bryony Holdsworth

AV AV AV’s “No Statues” pulsates with a brutalist energy. Its dark hip-hop rhythms and splintered barbs of electronica throb and shudder across the jagged production, earmarking a new musical direction for the talented collective.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker and fellow band member Martin Skovbjerg, the accompanying visuals to AV AV AV's new track are antagonistic. The protagonist gazes across an apocalyptic terrain, sirens blaring in the distance as fires burn across the city.

“The message in the video is not political, it’s human,” the trio explain. “All societies are created by people who have made choices. Some changes have required drastic choices, such as the French Revolution. It changed Europe. Seen from the king and the royalty’s perspective, it may not have been a very cool situation. But for the people of Europe, who are now writing the story, it was one of the most important things that could happen.”

Breaking new ground with their musical intricacies, “No Statues” signifies a moment of change for the Danish collective - crafting change and demanding a reshuffle of the political and social order.

“No Statues” is out now, with their debut album soon to follow. Find AV AV AV on Instagram.
