NINA delivers some pristine Europop on new synthwave single "Empire Of Love"

UK-based German pop singer NINA has finally released her debut album today, and we're bringing you one of the record's best moments.

NINA's been releasing music since 2014 but she's held back from releasing a full-length record until Sleepwalking - "Empire Of Love" proves it's likely to have been worth the wait.

Although she cites Depeche Mode as a big influence, NINA's music can be found on the poppier end of the '80s spectrum. Rather than recalling Dave Gahan and co. "Empire Of Love" is a celebration of a union more suited to the payoff in a John Hughes movie. Picture the scene: Kevin Bacon's just realised he's been a fool all this time and he races to tell Elizabeth McGovern that she really is the one. The verses of the song are the reflective moments, all echoing guitar lines and downbeat electronic...but then the moment they unite, we get a starburst chorus where synths crystallise around NINA's pillowy soft vocal and eveything is okay again.

“'Empire of Love' is simply about love," says NINA. "Just one moment, simple as it can be, between two people, feeling complete, having found each other. Becoming invincible together, and finding happiness within."
