Sheffield’s Tropic Of Youth bring summery sounds to a cold winter’s day on new single “Poa Kichizi Kama Ndizi.”
The title—which, roughly translated, means “cool like banana” in Swahili—serves as both an apt description of the content and a reference point for the foursome’s self-labelled “soft rock world beat”. An immediately catchy blend of off-kilter afro-beat and island guitar lines, “Poa Kichizi Kama Ndizi” would make a young Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend) green with envy. For those of us trapped in an eternal polar vortex, however, these warm vibes are much appreciated.
Tropic of Youth’s debut EP drops in April. Catch them live at their launch show 22 March at Sheffield Cathedral.
