Without leaning too much on a comparison between BROODS and a certain 17-year-old NZ artist turned global superstar, ‘Bridges’ – the debut track from Auckland siblings Georgia and Caleb Nott - certainly points to similarly huge things on the horizon.
Bold synth lines, naturally, play a big part in the melody, with Georgia’s dulcet tones lingering longingly over notes of Lorde, Lauren Mayberry and even the effortlessly emotive Hannah Reid. Like their contemporaries in the UK and back home, BROODS are set up to transcend the boundaries of introspective indie and ebullient pop. Downbeat lyrics focusing on severed ties flirt with a sparkling mix of throbbing drum pads, chilled ahhs and those quintessential waves of synth. As debuts come, we’re racking our brains to think of a better one in the second half of this year.
