Sharaya Summers champions forgiveness on summery new track "Prodigal"

The LA-based artist puts the full strength of her impressive songwriting skills on display on jangling her latest effort.

"Prodigal" sees Sharaya Summers continue to build the foundations of her sound, putting her impressive songwriting skills on full display as she follows the story of a father who forgives his son for a whole plethora of mishaps. Within the country-tinged track lies an important lesson, much like a modern version of Aesop's Fables, as she shows how their relationship recovers from the destruction that the son causes and they become all the stronger for it.

The song is deeply rooted in Summers' Christian upbringing and you can hear the influence of her Church-singing days ringing earnestly through her words that are intwined with a Nashville sensibility. The song feels as though it belongs to another era as it shines with promise and is comforting in its warm, vintage-tinged positivity.

Speaking on the track, Summers says "I used be very idealistic - what I would forgive and what could never be forgiven. With time, I now realize, we are all capable of being really shitty humans... Forgive and move forward, rather than throw everything away - build a history of getting through things, rather than always starting over with someone new. This is a song about lowering our impossibly high standards of love and expectation. 'Prodigal' comes from my Christian background - it’s the story of the father who let his shitty son (who ran away and wasted everything), come back home and you know what? He loved him even more for it."

"Prodigal" is available to listen to on Spotify now.
