London newcomer Hinges shares intriguing slow groove “Duet”

14 August 2018, 14:27 | Written by Aaron Powell

Following the release of his debut song “Stay Low” earlier this year, exciting new prospect Hinges is back with understated track “Duet”

With all the hallmarks of a Mac DeMarco inspired stoner jam, “Duet” showcases Hinges as a young troubadour in waiting. Discussion on disco, rivalry and friendship below.

When did you first start writing songs?

At the age of 9, when I played drums in a band with Frank and Rich in primary school. After a year we had accrued three songs and we played them at the school leavers’ disco. Many wept.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My big network of musical friends and our brilliant rivalry. You surprise yourself with how much you get done once you convince yourself there’s always something to be done.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m rehearsing with my band at the moment. I’m one for holding music back. There’s tons of it, but I want it to be perfect. While I do that, we’re going to make sure our show is good. The first Hinges show is August 28th at The Windmill, and following that, as many as we can get away with.

Describe your sound in one word.

Hollow.

"Duet" is out now.
