MADDEE serves jazz-infused euphoria on the brooding "Clouds"
Intertwining R&B beats with soulful inflections, "Clouds" displays Toronto-based MADDEE's soothing vocals over smooth, slow-electronica foundations.
The 20-year-old artist flawlessly expands her artistry with an influx of jazz-infused sounds to create an incredibly graceful single. Despite MADDEE's youth, her vocals are brimming with brassy tinges. "Clouds" is filled with prismatic textures, constantly drawing on the emotions of overcoming a toxic relationship and exploring how to love yourself again.
“This song was written about getting over an unhealthy relationship. It’s about coming back to myself and my strength,” says MADDEE.
The track is drawn from her forthcoming EP Red Mind, which thematically explores the ramifications of a negative relationship and the emotions captured during that time of fragility. "The Red Mind EP started with the song ‘Clouds' which I wrote in the summer of 2016 after I graduated high school,” says MADDEE. “It was the very first song Gray Rowan [co-producer] and I made together. Gray sent me the track and I immediately fell in love with the vibe and wrote and recorded vocals to it the next day.
"This track was the start of a really cool new evolution of my music so we continued to work together over that summer and fall. We would spend super long nights in the studio writing these tracks and we became good friends and eventually created a really awesome co-production / writing team."
