Today we conclude our trio of short films with Irish singer-songwriter Fionn Regan.

Ahead of Regan’s new album, The Bunkhouse Vol. I: Anchor Black Tattoo, we’ve been following Fionn’s thoughts on the creative process, how art and music work together and on the many things that inspire him. Catch up with parts one and two if you’ve missed them.

Last week we brought you Irish singer songwriter Fionn Regan talking about art and music and this week he’s back in the second of our three part video feature.

Ahead of Regan’s new album, The Bunkhouse Vol. I: Anchor Black Tattoo, watch him above talking about how Ireland has influenced the new record. ”You can call it folk,” he explains, “but I feel in a lot of ways it’s like an Irish punk album, in that it’s pure, it’s stripped down, and it was made with just what I have at my disposal.”

“Recording in this way also allowed me to work very quickly, I was documenting as I was writing, so these songs feel very fresh to me, straight out of the ground, which is a really great feeling.”

Little more than a year since his last album – the sublime 100 Acres of Sycamore‘ – Fionn Regan is back with new record The Bunkhouse Vol. I: Anchor Black Tattoo.

It’s Regan’s fourth studio album and was recorded in his Bunkhouse studio with a 4-track and a single microphone.

“I did quite a bit of touring on my own earlier this year supporting Feist,” he explains, “and although the rooms were big, I felt very much at home on the stage and after that I had a strong instinct to get right down to the brass tacks, back to the essense of what is it that I do as a songwriter, so that’s what I’ve done.

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive footage of Fionn talking about his art and music, ahead of the release of the new record, which dropped over in Ireland back in September. Check out the first video, at the top of the page.

Swedish-American trio Miike Snow started out writing for others, with two thirds of the band eventually finding themselves responsible for one of the 2000s’ very best pop songs.

Now on their second album under their own name, the band are firmly ensconced under the stage lights. We caught up with them in London to talk about gear, culture, and frozen pizza.

This week esoteric tech duo Ghosting Season celebrated the launch of their latest single ‘A Muffled Sound Of Voices’ on legendary DJ Sasha’s new label Last Night On Earth. Sebastien Dehesdin caught up with the band before their release show at Elektrowerkz to talk about past projects, future plans, and working with idols.

As Bella Union week draws to a close here on The Line of Best Fit, we have one last video treat in store in the shape of an interview with Copenhagen’s brilliant Treefight For Sunlight.

Recently over in the UK to play a handful of dates, we managed to grab some time with the band following their impressive show at Dorset’s End of the Road Festival. They were kind enough to treat us and some lucky bystanders to an impromptu version of their track ‘What Became of You and I’ on a rickety piano, tucked comfortably away in the festival’s woods, and chatted to us about their UK label, Bella Union. There’s also mention of Marks and Spencer’s sandwiches being the worst in the world. Intrigued? Watch the video above to find out more.

This week has seen The Line of Best Fit celebrating everything to do with the wonderful label that is Bella Union. There are a couple of names that have become synonymous with the label, names such as Midlake, Fleet Foxes and Beach House. Another name that has become inextricably linked to the label is that of John Grant, who first released through Bella Union back in 2000 when his band The Czars put out Before…But Longer.

In 2010, marking a ten year relationship with the label, John Grant released the beautiful Queen of Denmark and is currently rounding off a summer tour which has seen him take in some of Europe’s most prestigious venues and festivals.

We tracked John down at the End of The Road festival, still grinning from the reportedly brilliant show he’d played at Ireland’s Electric Picnic the night before. After enticing him to the romantic setting of a dirty media tent, The Line of Best Fit talked to him about to talk about his recent shows and the label that has been his home for the past 11 years.

Lanterns on the Lake are one of the newest additions to the Bella Union family, with their beautiful debut album, Gracious Tide, Take Me Home being released just a few weeks ago. Combining gorgeous melodies with delicate vocals, soothing strings and sedate structures, Lanterns on the Lake have succesfully wooed audiences during their live appearances over the summer, and are sure to do the same on their upcoming UK tour, the dates of which can be viewed here.

We caught up with the north-eastern six-piece just ahead of their stunning performance at Dorset’s End of the Road festival to find out  how they came to be signed to Bella Union, and what being a part of the prestigious label means to them.

We’ve been getting excited about Canada’s Polaris Music Prize announcement all week here at The Line of Best Fit as their shortlist is, to put it simply, brilliant. Nominees for the prestigious prize include Destroyer, Braids and Galaxie, and over the past week, a selection of TLOBF’s writers have been taking a closer look at the nominated albums in order to see which artist deserves to be crowned Polaris Music King or Queen 2011 (Part One | Part Two).

Today, it’s the turn of nominee Austra who graciously agreed to be a part of one of our favourite features, Ham on Why? Every so often, our good pal and esteemed colleague Jen Long will track down one of her favourite artists and interview them whilst they construct a sandwich out of a selection of the (sometimes mismatched) ingredients that Jen provides, thus combining some of her favourite things: music and sandwiches. Her latest sandwich making accomplice is none other than Katie Stelmanis of Austra who joins Jen to discuss her thoughts on Britain, life on tour, and of course, sandwiches.
