David Longstreth plays the ailing patient in the new vid from Dirty Projectors, said bed located in the neon-daubed back of a Bitte Orca-embellished lorry one moment, and surrounded by mountain-dwelling dalmatians the next. Flanked by supreme harmonisers Haley Dekle and Amber Coffman, the surrealist piece comprising scenes from recently released short Hi Custodian aptly compliments the quintessentially jittery, yet ultimately smooth flow to ‘About to Die’.
Taking in sporadic stop frame and a snapshot filmed in some sort of Elizabethan bedsit – a vibrantly synthetic Tequila Sunrise streaming through the panes beside the debilitated Longstreth – the whole shebang is a disorientating joy. And all’s well that ends well, as clergymen stand alongside the scantily clad as Longstreth yodels his spirited last.
