Watch: Niki and the Dove – Mother Protect (Best Fit Session)
We have been a constant, stuttering noise in our love and regard for Stockholm duo Niki & the Dove. We’ve called them “the most exciting pop act to emerge from Sweden since Studio”. And you know how much we love Studio, right?
The debut release on Moshi Moshi DJ Ease My Mind/Under the Bridges fogged up our Scandinavian radar back in August last year and since then we’ve done everything we can to find out more about the mysterious Swedes and help push the new charge of literate electro-pop forward.
When there was a hint of the possibilty of a TLOBF Session, we lept upon it, never really sure if it would happen or not.
Then finally it did.
We caught up with Malin and Gustaf the day after their acclaimed UK debut show at The Lexington, London and spent the afternoon with them in the superlative Orange Dot Gallery, recently home to Pure Groove’s Xmas pop-up shop.
We were full of gooey expectation but had no idea what might happen. Let’s just say it was magical, transcendent and classy on a level we never even thought possible. Minds were truly blown and Niki and the Dove’s place as our new favorite band was reaffirmed.
So on to it: we are proud and excited to present Niki and the Dove’s ‘Mother Protect’, a song we wrote about in November and called “a veracious seething cluter-fuck of a pop song”.
