Warpaint – Scala, London 28/10/10
Stunning harmonised vocals, blistering guitar howls and sparsely arranged psychedelic melodies have made Warpaint one of the most hyped Rough Trade signings in a long time. Thankfully this evening lays solid foundations to the huge expectations that have been attached to the young Californians.

Warpaint – The Fool
On first listen The Fool could idly be mistaken as a chaotic mess – a collection of great notions, but when brought together they appear at odds with one another. Although after a couple of listens the ethereal vocals, coarse melodies and abysmal sonics never gelled quite so successfully. With each song being a transcendental uneven shot of cosmic energy. TLOBF’s Antonio Rowe explains.

Warpaint have released the video for the track ‘Undertow’, which was directed by actress Shannyn Sossaman, bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg’s sister.

SOTD #136 // Warpaint: ‘Undertow’

Warpaint – CAMP Basement, London 26/08/2010

Warpaint – Exquisite Corpse
Warpaint show an appreciation for atmospheric detail, a delight in lingering on bent chords or turns of harmonically strange phrasing. A promising band.

Hecuba – Paradise
Hecuba’s brand of witchy electro-art pop is so hot right now. Another camera-friendly boy/girl duo from Southern California, they’re easy to typecast, harder to pin down.
