Xmas Advent [December 10th] :: Shearwater

Posted on 10 December 2008 by Rich Thane

Jonathan Meiburg of Shearwater recommends… “Lost Wisdom” by Mount Eerie

“This graceful, mysterious song, from the mini-album of the same name, captures what it’s like to lose someone - whether through a death, a breakup, whatever - and the way your mind rages and pleads against the loss. Phil Elvrum is one of my favorite living musicians and Julie Doiron’s voice is a perfect complement to his. No song I’ve heard this year has moved me like this one.”

Shearwater are a five-piece band from Austin, Texas. Jonathan Meiburg, their lead singer, was a member of Okkervil River for nine years. Their album Rook is out now on Matador and has been nominated for TLOBF Album of the Year - you can vote for it here. A companion EP to Rook, The Snow Leopard, is out now via digital download only.

But it contains a charming non-conventional element, especially for London, which lends itself to Phil’s Mount Eerie tonight for a night of electric aural goodness. Continue Reading
