On the surface Heretofore might seem a more straightforward record compared to last year’s debut album but dig a little deeper and the band’s skilful melding of the traditional and the experimental is just as apparent.

There is something vaguely unsettling about 3 folky weird-beards on horseback dabbling with electronic skronk, field recordings and musique concrete – that Megafaun, on this their second album not only pull it off but actually make the resulting mess into something warm and wholesome is quite some feat.
