Eels write new song for film, stick other songs on it too

A brand spanking new Eels song ‘Man Up’ is featured on the new film Yes Man (out 26 December 2008), alongside 12 other Eels tracks.

Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel star in the film, which is based on the book by Danny Wallace and was filmed in Eels leader E’s Silver Lake neighbourhood.

The soundtrack album features ‘Man Up’ plus 8 other Eels classics alongside 4 songs by Zooey Deschanel’s band Munchausen By Proxy.

You can hear ‘Man Up’ in its entirety on the band’s MySpace page right now.

Eels give away free EP

To celebrate the release of the Eels’ Blinking Lights and Other Revelations 4 LP deluxe vinyl limited edition the band is giving away a 4 song EP download for one week.

The free EP contains songs from the exclusive Manchester 2005 album, which is only available on vinyl as part of the Blinking Lights deluxe edition, but you can download the EP regardless of ordering the cash-in. Anyone who wants the EP can have it! Simply enter a valid email address and follow the link from the email for easy download. The MP3s will play on any iPod, MP3 player or computer. The live album is only available on vinyl as part of this limited edition. It will not be released in any other formats.

Eels - Corn Exchange, Cambridge, 24/03/08

An Evening with Eels“. That’s what was on my ticket. However, it might have been better marketed as “A Night with Mark Everett” or “E” to his mates. This was a stripped down and quite personal evening. No support act, just the recent BBC Four documentary about E’s father, the originator of the theory about parallel universes. A nice idea but it’s hard to believe that any Eels fan hasn’t already seen it.

I was a little concerned with E strode onto the stage, in a rather fetching boiler suit, by himself and no band. “This could be a very quiet and dark evening” I thought to myself. However, after the opening pair of songs, including a thread bare version of ‘It’s a Motherfucker’, The Chet joined the stage. This multiple instrument playing genius, and later book reader, helped add a certain something to the songs. No longer just an electric guitar or piano, the songs were still stripped back to their dark, cold and sinister hearts, but the extra elements of Saw, guitar and drums just gave the songs the sufficient twist they needed to break out of the mundane.
