Wu-Tang Clan fans launch Kickstarter to raise $5 million for one-of-a-kind album
As previously reported, Wu-Tang Clan are set to release a one-of-a-kind album later this year, asking for a sum in the region of $5 million for the release. Now, in an attempt to share the spoils with the masses, two Wu-Tang Clan fans have launched a Kickstarter to raise the funds for the very limited-edition release.
The album, entitled Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, is an effort by RZA to return music to the realm of art, touring the boxset across festivals and art galleries before selling it to the highest bidder. But the two fans Russell Meyer and Calvin Okoth-Obbo feel that Wu’s loyal following should also get to experience the LP.
“I can’t imagine RZA being upset if enough Wu-Tang fans get together and raise enough money to purchase ,” Meyer said in interview with DNAinfo New York. ”We don’t want some guy in Dubai who literally has money to burn to buy it as a collector item that only six people will get to listen to.”
In other Wu-Tang news, Raekwon has told Rolling Stone that he’s “on strike” from the group because of the “mediocre shit” that RZA has been producing.
