Only a mere 5% of last year’s best-selling songs were written solely by the performer, as the position of the once-great singer-songwriter seems to fade.

MusicWeek research shows that of the Official Top 100 Singles in 2012, just one in twenty tracks saw the performer hold lone writing credits.

90% of the hits were aided by additional songwriters, while 5% were cover versions.

The highest-selling artist-written track was Rudimental & John Newman’s ‘Feel The Love’.

More details on the figures can be found here.
