New Jay-Z album breaks Spotify record with 14 million streams in one week
While much of the publicity regarding Jay-Z’s new album has been about seemingly everything bar the music itself, it still seems that listeners have been excited to check out the record – with the LP breaking Spotify‘s first week streaming record.
The record had been previously held by both Daft Punk and Justin Timberlake, with Jay-Z’s latest effort Magna Carta Holy Grail leapfrogging both to the top of the summit with 14 million listens in its debut week alone.
This follows news yesterday that Jay-Z’s Samsung smartphone app, which he used to give fans the chance to download his album for free, could be facing Federal investigation after it was found to compromise users’ privacy.
Meanwhile, Spotify themselves have been under fire, with both Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich criticising the company’s benefit for artists. Radiohead’s own manager, however, has decided to back the music-streaming platform in the row.
