Labrador announce newest signing: 16 year old Amanda Mair
The name Labrador is nowadays synonymous with perfect Swedish pop. Fellow rivals Sincerely Yours, Service et al may well push boundaries in terms of cutting edge, hipper than thou blog fodder but when it comes to melody, sincerity and pure pop classicism Labrador are untouchable. We’ve spoken in depth about their importance many, many time before so let’s focus more on their latest discovery: the incredibly young (and hugely talented) Amanda Mair.
‘House’ is the first single taken from the forthcoming debut album. Released on June 8 and produced by Philip Ekström (Det Vackra Livet / The Mary Onettes), ‘House’ begins as a simplistic piano led ballad – standard singer songwriter fayre. It’s only a minute or so in when the chorus swoops forth and Ekström’s Spector-esque production takes hold that things really lift off. With a voice that holds a sweetness and innocence of her early years, there’s also a knowingness to her vocal – a maturity that perhaps over time could see her standing amongst her older contemporaries in the over saturated female market. She will make her live debut at Stockholm’s Debaser Medis on May 14.
Certainly one to keep your eye on. Stream / download ‘House’ below.
