The brother/sister duo that everyone will be talking about come the end of 2009 have announced a March 9th release for their debut album Harum Scarum. The record will surely be welcomed with open arms by fans of Gideon’s previous band, the much loved Bikini Atoll – but don’t expect any dread-fuelled antics this time around, oh no. See, Joe Gideon and the Shark have discarded the darkness and have stepped into the light. This light is in part provided by Gideon’s humorous and fantastical monologues which hook you in to their world. A Joe Gideon and the Shark record thus provides and indie rock classic and a talking book all for the price of one.

Barely a year old, this band has already gained the respect of their contemporaries and have been invited to play with the likes of TLOBF faves The Duke Spirit, Archie Bronson Outfit, Scout Niblett, Sons & Daughters and most recently Nick Cave…

The duo are out on the road again next week with a short tour supporting Bronzerat label mate Seasick Steve. Dates are:

23rd January – Manchester Apollo
25th January – Newcastle City Hall
27th January – Leeds Academy
29th January – Wolverhampton Civic Hall
31st January – London – Hammersmith Apollo

A headline UK tour will follow in March.

I especially like how they’ve attempted to make it look like double concensus but made exactly the same ‘point’ in the same way in both posts.

They’re supporting Wire next month on a one-off date somewhere in London. That’ll be something worth seeing.

Saw them last night at Leeds and thought they were FANTASTIC. They went down really well with a crowd that had come to watch a totally different type of music. Looking forward to getting there album.

I also saw them last night in Leeds and was impressed. Never heard of them before but I’m glad I have now. Looking forward to album. Difficult to describe but a kind of blues/alt.country with added weirdness and some fairly loud heavy sections which are brutal and infectious . Influences may include Nick Cave but also early seventies space and prog rock which surprised me because given the combo of guitar plus drummer/keyboard I expected a kind of White Stripes or Kills, they are genuinely different.
