London's mayor, Boris Johnson, is set to host the second annual London Music Awards.

The awards were set up to recognise talent in the capital as well as young musicians, local legends and global icons from the city.

12 awards will be given in the following categories: Mayor’s Music Fund Outstanding Scholars, Mayor’s Music Fund Outstanding Musical Partnership, Music Excellence in Schools, Music Philanthropist, Londoners’ Favourite Music Venue (you can vote for that one here), Rising Stars (across five categories: Classical, Jazz, Rock/Pop, Dance/Electronica and Composer/Songwriter), Global Export and London Legend.

Judges from across the industry, including Bestival's Rob Da Bank, composer Errollyn Wallen and Oliver Keens from Time Out will be choosing the winners.

The London Music Awards are set to take place on 11 June at the Camden Roundhouse.

The ceremony will also act as an "important fundraiser" for the Mayor's Music Fund, a local charity that gives out nearly half a million pounds in grants to children and young people wanting to develop their musical side.

MMF chairman Veronica Wadley said of the upcoming awards: "The growth of the Mayor's Music Fund is remarkable. In just four years it has had a huge impact on the musical landscape of our great city, nurturing and developing the talent of future generations. The London Music Awards is an opportunity to celebrate that talent and to raise funds to allow that the work continues, ensuring London's status as the music capital of the world."

This is just some of the work that BoJo is doing to help London's music - he recently set up a Live Music Taskforce to help ailing venues.
