4am toy with echoes and breathless obsession on "Yearning & Calling"
Nocturnal twosome 4am are back with "Yearning & Calling", a fabulous second track.
The track follows "More", which stealthily appeared in January.
"Yearning & Calling" ups the ante big time. It sounds like quivering comedown thanks to irregular breathing patterns, trap-infused beats, wide-eyed afterparty synths, and echoes that bounce from every direction - pitchshifted harmonies buzz and boom and shimmer, fizzing through the electro mist. At one moment its slick and breathy; in another its panciky and breathless. It's erratic and distorted and impossible to pin down - "Yearning & Calling" lurches towards loved-up gootronica and then towards paranoid obsession. It's unpredictable brilliance.
