Listen: KG Bird – Suffer Tiny Whales
Though built around a nucleus of drummer Tim James and his brother Chris on guitar and vocals, there are in fact six people who make up LA newcomers KG Bird – not that you’d guess from the delicacy of ‘Suffer Tiny Whales’.
You know the specific sound an instrument makes when you’ve got its amp turned up very loud, but you’re playing it really softly? KG Birds, all half-dozen of ‘em, love that sound. It gives this otherwise gentle number an ominous sense of trouble, concocted in a similar way to how Low and Lambchop make the simplest of folky chord progressions sound far more muscular than they’ve any right to.
‘Suffer Tiny Whales’ is taken from a debut EP due for arrival on May 6th. Don’t be surprised if it contains a few Crazy Horse-style wig outs.
