Having returned with their “Recommended” record Akron/Family II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT this past February following a two-year studio album absence, Akron/Family are all set to head off to Ultrecht in the Netherlands to play Le Guess Who Festival alongside the likes of Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks from 24-27 November. But before they do, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Miles Seaton was kind enough to take some time out in order to put together a selection of tracks for our latest Art of Noise playlist – made exclusively for The Line Of Best and Le Guess Who Festival.
Rather than give us a track-by-track run down of his choices, Seaton wrote a little letter about his mixtape:
“It’s actually a little nerve racking to make mixes, part of me would love to just make a 10 hour mix of a Terry Riley piece I love on repeat and call it a day. And what about those Bee Thousand outtakes, or Dylan bootlegs or the entire super roots series? Sort of feels like I only have a few tickets to a great show and I feel sad for the friends that get left out. Ha! At the end of the day I guess you just have to pick a theme or feel and go with it.
So, this mix highlights a love for both African and African-American music. It’s all based around the grooves, yes we do love a groove. Though I don’t have a lot of patience for music that doesn’t come “from the heart” there’s definitely some freaky zones in here….I love my sweets with salt.
Sorry Mr. Johnston, and Mr. Orcutt, you can come next time.
Love, Miles (Akron/Family)”
