Listen: Sophie and The Bom Boms - "Power" [Premiere]
Sophie and The Bom Boms is a new pop force that might just be about to take 2015 prisoner; her credentials are solid gold, and she's got tunes to match.
Sophie Stern heads up the project - that's the same Sophie Stern that cut her teeth songwriting for Britney Spears, Ke$ha and more - and this new track "Power" is staggeringly energetic gambit.
There's a boisterous Sleigh Bells-meets-hip-hop vibe in the track, as Stern's spit-laced vox, pitchy exclamations of "Money!" and the cheesegrater synths all coalesce. It's certainly a track that lives up to its name - it's brash mayhem with a whole heap of power. It's also produced by David Elevator (Beck).
Explaining the track's intent and her motivation for writing it, Stern said:
"Power and money is a constant struggle in our lives and in the world as a whole. It’s a complex relationship. It is something we all want, despite knowing it is not what make us truly happy. Writing this record I was thinking about how we want to run from it and towards it at the same time - it’s an eternal struggle. The song is basically f&*% "the Man" but he still kinda got me hooked."
