Weekender: The Best Songs of the Week

A concise snapshot of what’s been getting us – and you – excited in the world of music these last seven days.

The big song this week for us was the debut track by Parisians Ben Chollet and Maxime Maybon who make music under the Champions League moniker. ‘Paris is our Playground’ is the freshest combination of hazy Balearic riffs and gentle house piano lines we’ve heard since Sweden’s Air France decided to call it a day.

It was a strong week for other debuts too, with mysterious London producer Water unveiling the final track from his first EP proper (free for download on his website); ‘Aeu Aie’ is a slice of wholly affecting textural pop.

Raleigh Ritchie offered up ‘A Moor’; a transcendental take on RnB, with a nod to the 90s vintage variety we love so much.

We were also pretty enamoured of newcomer Phlo Finister’s take on RnB too - ethereal, dramatic and involving.

Listen to our selection of the week’s best tracks below.
