It seems Husband are purposefully trying to dissuade people from visiting Bologna. The Italian university town is described as a “creative ground zero” in the band’s press release, and they went out of their way in a recent Quietus interview to point out that there’s nothing to do when the students leave.
And yet a first listen to new single ‘Dear Down’ immediately causes one to wonder what sort of environment would produce this very specific sound. It’s very many things all at once: a krauty rhythmic structure, midwestern guitar melodies, and slightly disembodied but distinctly European vocals, all played behind a fuzzy, somnambulant haze.
‘Dear Down’ is out 28 May on the fascinating Robot Elephant, whose recent chiptune compilation is also well worth checking out. The band play the following dates:
April 20 – London, Shacklewell Arms – with Blue on Blue / Hipdiebattery – FREE ENTRY
April 21 – Reading, Oakford Social Club – with Hipdiebattery
