Polaroids with Alessia Cara

24 March 2016, 11:30

We catch up with Canadian pop-R&B singer-songwriter Alessia Cara for some Impossible Polaroids just before she hits the stage at Electric Brixton for her biggest UK show yet.

In London as part of the European leg of the Know-It-All tour which kicked off in Amsterdam, Cara plays Sound Control in Manchester tonight and the O2 Institute 2 Birmingham on Friday, before a run of dates in Canada and the US in April, and a Coachella appearance later in the month. We also captured the stand-out performance that night at Electric Brixton in live photos, with the setlist including "I'm Yours", "Wild Things", "4 Pink Walls", "Overdose", "Stars", "Outlaws", "17", "Stone", "River of Tears", "Scars To Your Beautiful", "Here", with an encore of "Sweater Weather" and "My Song".

Cara spoke to us around her first UK shows, where she told Best Fit "I loved writing as a kid - poetry, stories, I loved writing short fiction...I knew how to write but not to put it into melody and fit it into a three-minute song that was catchy and good and made sense. I was pretty shy though when I started writing lyrics. It really took [singer/songwriter and producer] Sebastian Kole and other people to get that from me and take it out of me."

Alessia Cara’s debut LP Know-It-All is out now on Virgin EMI, including the singles ‘Here’ and ‘Wild Things’. Best Fit's review of the record found "These days, the girl sure can make a hit; “Here”, “I’m Yours” and “Wild Things” ooze chart potential, delivering rich vocal pop and bursts of her excellent, half-rapped lyrics. The familiar snap of the drums and the admittedly rather formulaic musical backdrop come together. It works."

BW 2.0 Impossible Project 600 type film by Impossible and shot on Polaroid 600 series by Jason Williamson.
