All Apologies: East of My Youth

26 April 2016, 09:00

Ahead of their appearance at the final Ja Ja Ja club night before the summer break, Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir and Herdís Stefánsdóttir from Iceland's East of My Youth take on the Best Fit Q&A.

Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Thelma: Bill Murray or Marion Cotillard, obviously.

Herdís: Jennifer Lawrence.

What would your superpower be and why?

Thelma: To travel through time. All from seconds to centuries.

Herdís: Tele-transportation. Not so keen on flying so it would be a sweet addition to my life.

What’s your idea of heaven?

Thelma: Sitting in front of the fireplace in my cabin with someone wonderful rubbing my feet and making me laugh.

Herdís: Spending time with my loved ones, free massage and spa.

What one thing have you learnt from your parents?

Thelma: To love.

Herdís: That life gets better by every year.

What song do you wish you’d written?

Herdís: "Simply the Best" for Tina Turner (my childhood idol).

Thelma: "Happy Birthday"? Haha no. I would have loved to have written "Hava Nagila" even though I'm not Jewish. I really like group dance songs.

If you could say something to your 15 year old self, what would it be?

Herdís: Don't worry so much about being good at maths. And don't stop practising the piano you lazy kid!!

Thelma: If it doesn't definitely kill you or hurt others - Just do it!

What’s your re-occuring nightmare?

Herdís: Running late, everything in slow motion, pregnant in a wedding dress.......

Thelma: This is tricky answering but I guess when I'm off balance I tend to be afraid of wasting time. But then I do my yoga and all becomes great again.

What song will they play at your funeral?

Herdís: Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, prelude and Edith Piaf - "Non, je ne regrette rien".

Thelma: "(I've Had) The Time of My Life". I'm a huge Dirty Dancing fan.

What five people would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

Herdís: God if he exists, Nietzsche to hopefully proof him wrong, Edith Piaf and hope that she would sing for me, Salvador Dali. So I'm thinking about the 5th one, God and Nietzsche will might be party poopers, Edith has a temper and Dalí is weird so I guess I would maybe go with Russel Brand to pump up the party.

Thelma: Ooh... I guess it would be Frida Kahlo - because she was the coolest - Heath Ledger (my biggest Hollywood crush), Marilyn Monroe - I'd like to give her a hug - but I also think she'd make us laugh. Apparently she was hilarious. Oh and number three... hmm... maybe Adele - she's funny and would make karaoke a real challenge for me and Marilyn. And last but not least Albert Einstein - I'd play with his hair and get him to dance

And finally, who would you most like to apologise to and why?

Herdís: Hmmm.

Thelma: Myself. I guess you're never as hard on anybody as you are on yourself.

East of My Youth plays The Lexington alongside Ary (Norway), Palace Winter (Denmark), and Venior (Finland) on 28 April. Tickets are available now and cost £5 for Ja Ja Ja members (£7 for non-members) – sign up for free now.
