A so-called “abstract documentary” about the band (sort of) and, well, an island off the coast of Denmark (sort of), An Island is 48 minutes of pure, unfettered artistic collaboration, documented Dogme-style. Sounds unwatchably pretentious? It’s precisely the opposite.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones (DVD)
‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ is the only complete concert footage from the Stones’ 1972 tour of America and is cobbled together from four shows in Fort Worth and Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, the footage may have made a better concert album than movie.

Strummerville – A Film by Don Letts
Directed by Don Letts, “Strummerville” is an informative short documentary on the groundbreaking charity set up to continue Joe Strummer’s legacy by aiding struggling artists.

Porcupine Tree – Anesthetize
Anesthetize is a great buy for both long-time and new fans; the song delivery is faithful to the band’s studio work, but the performance and stage visuals are enough to warrant checking this concert out even if you already have their albums.

Rush – Beyond The Lighted Stage
Beyond The Lighted Stage chronicles the story of Rush. It’s a movie that juxtaposes blistering live performances with candid interviews from the band and their closest associates.

All Tomorrow’s Parties
Over the past decade, “All Tomorrow’s People” – from cinematographer Vincent Moon to fans – have been documenting the escapades of spectators and bands alike, brought together in a heartwarming keepsake film.
Nirvana – Live at Reading
We don’t want to give away all the quirks of the gig, but blood-covered guitars and Grohl’s game of drum-kit Jenga rate highly. Chloe George reviews.

Leonard Cohen-Live In London
While Laughing Len plays the elder statesmen of the broken hearted to a tee, cheesy arrangements and OTT sax solos make Live In London a nice memory, but an inessential addition to his live back catalog for those not there in the flesh.
Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell
Emily Moore paints a portrait of 1970s and 1980s New York underground, where disco, pop and the avant-garde collided with explosive force and at which Arthur Russell was at the centre.
Radio Soulwax – Part of the Weekend Never Dies
A documentary into Soulwax by director Saam Farahmand, a touring concept that for the past three years has showcased the talents of these four clever Belgians.
Cara Dillon – The Redcastle Sessions
Comprising live performances of songs taken from her first three solo albums, The Redcastle Sessions is a DVD release that sees folk artist Cara Dillon performing at various locations around her home of Ireland.
