One of our favourite bands at TLOBF, Elbow have yet to release a disappointing album. So, when those lovely people at their label suggested they’d be game for our 20 Questions, we jumped at the chance. Lead guitarist Mark Potter took the plunge and left us wondering what a different world we’d be living in if he carried on with is first career… Continue Reading

Born Ruffians - the latest signings to the good ship Warp. An indie-guitar band who sound like the missing link between The Shins and Vampire Weekend. These guys know how to have a good time and then write songs about it after the event. Their debut album isn’t out till May, but we took the chance to pit our 20 Questions to them before they got too famous… And the truth about lead singer Luke LaLonde’s porn collection got out… Continue Reading

With the release of their sophomore album, Red, on March 24th and lead single ‘Get Over It’ on March 17th (via Polydor), we caught up with Guillemots’ Aristabal Hawkes to pit our 20 Questions against her. Who’d have thought she’d be so open about their rider, has 6 toes and makes weird gurning noises before she goes on stage… You have us to thank… Continue Reading

On the verge of releasing their debut album, we caught up with the “mobileAct Unsigned” winners Envy & Other Sins to give them their toughest challenge yet: our 20 Questions! (Can I say I feel particularly old my the fact that their first record ever bought was an album by Space….). Continue Reading

Sunshine pop from New Zealand. No, it’s not some weird spin-off from Flight on the Conchords, but The Ruby Suns. Their sun drenched pop anthems have improved my mood no end since hearing the dulcet tones on their latest album Sea Lion. We caught up with main man Ryan to see what he had to say… Continue Reading

One of my hotly tipped acts for 2008, Fuck Buttons are the missing link piece in a jigsaw of Sonic Youth, Mogwai and Portishead. Creating wonderfully evocative swathes of music, their debut album Street Horrrsing is due for release on 11th March via ATP. I managed to fire off our, unchanged for 2008, 20 Questions to Andew Hung and Benjamin John Power to discover their views on advice, hangovers and how ridiculous our ‘Stoat or a Goat’ question is… Continue Reading

Fanfarlo are the first band featured in our weekly dose of 20 Questions that haven’t actually got a record deal. That’s not to say they aren’t any good. On the contrary. They’re bloody fantastic. Minature pop symphonies with more hooks (and instruments) than you can shake an indie-pop stick at. And, if the tracks streaming on their myspace page are anything to go by, these guys are set for big things in the coming months, having already picked up major press attention on the way. Their album has already been demoed and is sitting, waiting patiently to be recorded whilst they have a single ready and waiting in the wings which is due out at the end of this month. We caught up with vocalist Simon to pitch him our cunning questions, and, to our amazement he responded by giving the best stoat/goat answer we’ve ever had! I’m sure you’ll be as thrilled as we were. Andrew Jackson, the driving force behind House of Brothers is one of the most promising singer songwriters this country has produced in years. His Deadman EP has been on constant rotation at TLOBF towers for months now and is totally worthy of your investigation. Check out our review here. It is of course now a customary measure here at The Line of Best Fit to grill our favourite new acts so you get to know them a little better, and what better way is there than the hard-core 20 Questions treatment? Exactly. None. Read on….

The album Turn Into Vapour has been on constant rotation on my iPod since I was kindly sent it back at the beginning of the year (read our review here). Their marvellous take on slacker indie rock reminded me of the finer moments of Sebadoh and The Lemonheads whilst still being a unique and individual voice. We caught up with the band to pitch our 20 Questions, revealing the wonders of Dirty Dancing and free energy drinks. Continue Reading

One of the hottest acts of 2008, Vampire Weekend have not only been touted as a band to watch by our good selves, but also fine establishments as the BBC, Drowned In Sound and Rolling Stone. What great company we keep! Anyway, we caught up with bassist Chris Baio to create one of the highlights of their short career to date. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the ramshackle, twisted rural pop of Vampire Weekend…

Charlottefield return this week with the release of their loud, brash and, quite frankly marvellous, album What Are Friends For? So, what better time to catch up with lead ‘Field man Thomas House to find out the answers to those all important questions. Continue Reading

One of the most promising female singer / songwriters we’ve head in some time, Ana Silvera is destined to be talked about in all the right places come the end of the year. Currently promoting a host of live dates in London and New York, catch her if you can. We caught up with her recently to pose our 20 Questions, not really expecting answers about Ibiza, the moon goddess Diana and Bobbi Brown Cream Blusher…

Shoegazing is back in style with Daniel Land and the Modern Painters, their Voss EP causing Line of Best Fit to stare intently at their trainers whilst layered guitars fly around quite nicely. And of course, we had to take the opportunity to put to them those all important 20 Questions. Daniel himself and drummer Marcus were only too happy to oblige. Continue Reading

In our final installment of 20 Questions for 2007 (quick, someone pass me a tissue) we grabbed Young Husband (aka Euan Hinshelwood) by the scruff of his neck to answer our, by now legendary questions. And thank god he did! Otherwise, we’d never have found out about his 12th nipple. Where would you be without us supplying you with this vital information?
If you haven’t already sampled Young Husbands delightful psychedelic indie then head on down to the bottom of this post where you can pick up a live performace of “Painted Pictures”. Expect more 20Q’s in the new year with House of Brothers and The Twilight Sad to name just a few.

We met up with Emmy The Great at a recent showcase at the Borderline. We were lucky enough to grab a quick word with her and schedule her to answer our tough and unforgiving 20 Questions. She reveled her love of pooing, tiny dog’s and how her life seem’s to involve her being a man at some point. Continue Reading

One of the most exciting bands to come from Birmingham for quite some time, the three piece that is Johnny Foreigner. Their take on jittering and noise-driven alternative rock is a joy to behold. Whilst in a hotel in New York recording their debut full length album, we managed to sneak in our 20 Questions to amuse them… Continue Reading

The folk stylings of London’s Noah & The Whale seem to be finding themselves hyped from all corners of the blogosphere… and who are we to go against that? Impressing us with their timeless debut single “5 Years Time”, we thought we’d catch up with them to ask our 20 Questions. And apparently it was the highlight of their short lives to date… Continue Reading

I’m generally not one for bands tipped as “the next Arctic Monkeys’” for obvious reasons. British indie music has been in the doldrums for some time now, with rehash after rehash of the post-Libertines sound (sorry if I sound like a miserable sod). But there was something about The Brightlights new single “Inspired By” that flicked my switch. Hailing from Grimsby, birthplace of The Verve, this four-piece deliver their ballsy sound with so much panache, it’s quite difficult not to fall for it. Continue Reading

They’re one of our new favourite bands. They’re the missing link between Idlewild and The Wedding Present. They’re going to be huge. They’re Frightened Rabbit. That’s all you need to know… apart from the answers to our recently revamped 20 Questions… Continue Reading

A little favour for our friends over at Bella Union means you get two 20 Questions this week, you lucky people! The Beach House crew are about to start a little tour around the UK and will hit many a fair town, including Cambridge, on Saturday night. Should be a good night if their live act is as interesting as their answers to our questions… Continue Reading
