Essentially an outlet for his overriding interest in the prog/psychedelic frequency of the musical spectrum, this collection is part homage and part exploration of the reaches just before the outer-reaches.
About Sam Shepherd

John Grant – Queen of Denmark
Queen of Denmark is a stunning piece of work and it confirms John Grant as a brilliant lyricist and vocalist. This is an album that deserves a place alongside this year’s best.

Nice Nice – Extra Wow
With Extra Wow, Nice Nice have created an album that is not so much a collection of individual tracks as it is a singular piece of meditative electronic noise. It’s a splendid, if sometimes confusing achievement.
Gonjasufi – A Sufi and A Killer
A remarkably confusing but expertly conceived record that come December could be up there as one of the year’s best. It is utterly spell-binding.

Lauren Pritchard – Jericho Tavern, Oxford 07/03/10
It’s never a good sign when you hear someone that might be the bar manager utter the words “I didn’t know there was a gig tonight, that’s why the heating’s not on”.

Misterlee – This Disquiet Dog
Misterlee will probably struggle to pull in the more mainstream punter – but for those willing to take a chance on something a bit unusual, you couldn’t wish for a better album.

The Boy Who Trapped The Sun – Home EP
Home lacks a little focus at times, but there is little doubt that Colin Macleod is a genuine talent.

The Kissaway Trail – Sleep Mountain
It may not be breaking any new ground, but there are enough great songs to be found here that the need to be sonic adventurers is rendered insignificant.

Picastro – Become Secret
Picastro have made a record unremittingly bleak, but it is nevertheless a constantly rewarding listen.

Yellow Swans – Going Places
It might well be Yellow Swans’ last hurrah, but in these exemplary explorations of sound and space they’ve left a wonderful parting gift for their fans.

Jason and The Scorchers – Halcyon Times
If it’s big dumb thrills you’re after, you could do a lot worse than joining Jason and The Scorchers on their trip to who knows where – it’ll be a blast.

Ardentjohn – Bull and Gate, London 30/01/10
It could be argued that on another night Ardentjohn could stuggle to inspire such a response such is the drowsy nature of some of their songs, but tonight this is a band on fire.
