Martinez works hard to provide a spiky resistance to the laconic proceedings but too often the alternative styles sound like polar opposites fighting for their right to be heard.
About Shawn Murtough

Funeral For a Friend – Your History Is Mine: 2002-2009
Is it Christmas already? The first of the stocking-filling-Record-Execs-wallet-filling cash-ins have arrived and it’s Funeral For A Friend with their Maiden/Emo fuelled ROCK who are up first.

Editors – In This Light and On This Evening
On album number three there’s a sense that Editors wanted to create a career defining album. The question is, have they done it? Shawn Murtough reviews.

Paramore – Brand New Eyes
“Do you really want me to review this? I asked for anything heavy…and you sent me this!” And so went the conversation with TLOBF editor in chief.

The Stone Roses – 20th Anniversary Remastered
Is it an impossible task to objectively review this? With so much having already been written, it would be easy to add to the vast mountain of praise that has already been heaped upon it…

Fury UK – VR
Fury UK have crafted, on their second album, a massively impressive wall of METAL, according to Shawn Murtough.

Viva Machine – Viva Machine
Theres nothing complex here, just straight forward, good time, dumbed down rock. You’ll either cherish it like your favourite uncles Tommy Cooper impressions or as my missus so eloquently declared, “you might think…its all a bit crap.”

Pearl Jam – Ten [Reissue]
Just in case anyone missed it the first time, ‘Ten’ is back, remastered and remixed by long term Pearl Jam collaborator Brendan O’Brien and with a whole host of bonus bits and bobs.

And What Will Be Left of Them? – The Hi-Fi Low Life
It may not be everyones cup of tea, but AWWBLOT don’t want to appeal to tea drinkers, they want cider swilling masses writhing and pogoing and giving their music the life and party it deserves.

Cardiff Crunched: The Point set to close
The Point, one of Cardiff’s finest live music venues, is set to close as the credit crunch continues to hit music labels, venues and bands.
Saturation Point hit rich vein of form
Prolific Bristolians Saturation Point are due to release not one, not two but three albums in the near future! They’ve also been asked to score a film. Further details inside…
Youthmovies – Polyp EP
Plenty of ideas, but never quite focusing them in the right way. Shawn Murtough reviews the latest EP from Youthmovies.
Buraka Som Sistema – Black Diamond
Shawn Murtough welcomes the release of Portugal’s finest export since Christiano Ronaldo.
Rock n’ Rolla Soundtrack – Various Artists
Perhaps Madonna split with Guy Ritchie because he couldn’t match the greatness of his soundtracks to his medicore movies… Oh well, Shawn Murtough listens so we don’t have to…
Attack! Attack! – Attack! Attack!
Shawn Murtough reckons it must be a pretty cushty life being an A&R man nowadays…If Attack! Attack! are anything to go by at least..
Rose Kemp – Unholy Majesty
Like the Bride of Chucky, ‘Unholy Majesty’ has plenty of malicious intent but ultimately the threatening demeanour is eroded to reveal a spongy soft stuffing. Shawn Murtough reviews.
